Ireland Plein Air!

In late July I had the opportunity to paint with the Art in the Open Festival in Ireland.  I joined with over 100 artists from Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the U.S. to explore southeastern Ireland.  It was pure magic!  The people were friendly, the villages were beautiful, and the Guinness… ah the Guinness.  Guinness!

I tried to figure out what exactly it is that makes the Guinness so much better in Ireland than anywhere else.  As I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, I had to keep trying.  Every night.

I met so many wonderful artists on the trip, but two stand out,  Karen Scannell and Billyo O’Donnell, (don’t let the name fool you, he’s American.)

Karen, a local who lives in a charming thatched roof house near Wexford, Ireland, took it upon herself to pick us up every morning and drive us to painting sites.  With an intimate knowledge of the area, she brought us to places we would never have discovered on our own.  AND she showed us some great pubs, where we could process the magic of the day.  I hope I have the chance to paint with the both of them again before to long!
